Asheldham Centre

An 11th Century former church now a Grade II Listed Building - our residential centre accommodating 26

Widely regarded as one of the most unique residential centres in the UK, The Asheldham Centre - formerly Asheldham Youth Church - is home to almost 2000 people of all ages in an average year. HUNTER Outdoor Training run their survival courses, basic campcraft and backpacking skills, navigation, and some leadership courses from this facility.

You can hire the Centre with or without HUNTER in attendance - you can self cater, and be your own boss for the duration of your stay or contract us in as full or part- time Instructors on your course.

The Centre is undoubtedly a gem; many, many, of our clients return to Asheldham due to its special qualities; there are few places in Essex or Eastern England with its atmosphere, and no shops, no pubs, very few houses, and little noise; groups come back to savour the indefinable 'Asheldham Experience'

The exterior of the building gives no clues to its interior; we have completely redesigned and rebuilt all of the inside, and added to the north side to accommodate kitchen, washroom, showers, toilets, and 'games' room.

The Main Hall

No.1 Dormitory

The accommodation includes two 10 bed dormitories - with new bunk beds in Winter 2005/6, and two smaller four bed dormitories in a different part of the building; the latter are usually for leaders.

No.2 Dormitory

Parking is available for six vehicles; there is a chapel still as part of the church; a list of activities available in the local area can be obtained from the Senior Manager, Barry Howard 07940 701468, or from us at HUNTER Outdoor Training huntertraining@hotmail.com.

Additional outdoor pursuits activities that HUNTER can instruct or arrange include mountain biking, archery, problem solving, high ropes course, wall climbing, sea kayaking, and sailing.

The Asheldham Centre is part of the Registered Charity 'Adventure Unlimited'. It is run by a dedicated team: Barry Howard [Senior Manager & current Chairman], Ann Reed [Vice Chair], Peter Chandler [Treasurer], Cassie Reed [General Sec. & PA], Jo Griffiths.
